Mini Lunar Tee Pee Capsule #10 (Gold), 2008, Gocco screenprint, 5.2 x 3.4 in (edition of 30)
About the Lunar Tee Pee Series:
I was thinking about the shape and inner workings of both real and imagined spaceships, especially the Gemini capsules and the old Battlestar Galactica TV show. Thinking about things shaped like spaceships somehow lead me to teepees. I slept in a real teepee once at an incredible event called Crow Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crow_Fair/). Also, when I was a kid, if neighborhood hooligans (!) threw lots of toilet paper in the trees of your house it was called “Teepeeing.” Now I know they were thinking of TP, as in toilet paper, not teepees, but still it made me think of teepees being made out of toilet paper and trees (or something). All of these associations evolved originally from my obsession with triangles, which has been going on for over 30 years. When I was a kid I would draw triangular-topped rockets (especially firework rockets) and mysterious pyramids for made-up civilizations. So in essence this series is my adult rumination on themes of I’ve been interested in since the age of 5.
