Teaching

TEACHING
I have been teaching for over 20+ years at a number of different institutions, including Stanford University (Honors in the Arts Program, Summer Session, & Continuing Studies), UC Santa Cruz, and Kala Art Institute. I received a BA in art from UC Berkeley and MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. I work with a range of students at all levels of 2D visual and interdisciplinary arts (e.g. drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, etc.) in online, studio, and lecture formats. I created the first online art class for Stanford University’s Continuing Studies program.

WORKSHOPS
I create and teach online and in-person independent workshops (not associated with any school), which are open to the public. Anyone can attend, including beginners, artists, hobbyists, retirees, undergraduates, etc. For example, I regularly teach a weekly one-hour workshop called “Drawing Break” online. No experience, skills, or special materials are required to attend. Participants only need to show up online with an open mind, paper, drawing tools, and be ready to experiment and play. For one hour I lead participants through inspiring drawing exercises designed to help people unwind and dive into their creative side.
MENTORING
I also do “One-to-One Mentoring” where I work with individuals online or in-person who need a fresh perspective, new inspiration, technical help, or attentive support with their art practice. I take an insightful and empathetic approach to meeting people where they are now in order to help them get to where they want to be creatively.
