Pen-do-Chronology
Pen-do-Chronology is an ongoing series of time-based drawings and performance projects. The projects are collaborative-based pieces performed in public locations such as the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History in Santa Cruz, CA, and the Flax Art store in San Francisco, CA. Each piece has a unique set of constraints based on the location and time length; these are then used to configure a set of parameters. During a performance these parameters guide Tubelle’s actions as “Artist-Facilitator“ and define the scope of the drawing “actions” participants take. Participants are invited to sit with Tubelle at a table covered with an unfinished drawing on paper and given instructions (either by Tubelle or by reading a card they pick from a pile). The instructions involve simple, repetitive drawing actions involving drawing tools (pens, pencils, rubber stamps, etc.) and/or activities intended to encourage participants to talk to one another or to engage with their surroundings. As Tubelle works on creating a “Time Spiral” (a circular-shaped, spiraling cluster of curlicues drawn with a pen) that grows during the length of the performance, participants add their own contributions (marks, doodles, stories, etc.) to the spiral.
